The story pivots around Raji a young sex worker, and three young men, two college students Babu who has a soft corner for her, Jayan  and a school teacher Chandran .

Raji loses her parents early in life leaving the responsibility of bringing up her younger brother Sudhakaran  on her shoulders. Circumstances force her to a life of a sex worker. She begins living with a slum dweller with a cycle-rickshaw driver Damu  working as her ‘agent.’

Babu who stayed in a nearby hostel takes a fancy to Raji and she begins to visit him almost regularly. Babu’s friend Jayan, a drunkard, attempts to approach Raji but is prevented by Babu. News spreads about Babu’s relationship with Raji. Sudhakaran is a regular visitor to his teacher Chandran’s room. One day a beggar steals Chandran’s wrist watch through an open window. Sudhakaran is arrested by the police. He is beaten up by the cops. Sudhakaran dies after his release from police custody. The real thief is arrested and Chandran repents for what he had done. But Raji refuses to pardon him and rejects the support offered by him.

Lakshmi comes to the town to meet Babu and Raji. She takes pity on Raji when she comes to know about her past and the circumstances that led her to become a sex worker. Lakshmi accepts her as her daughter-in-law and takes her home.

Avalude Ravukals a Malayalam film directed by I. V. Sasi, released in 1978. The film explores the life of a teenage prostitute and those of the people around her. The film was dubbed in Tamil as Avalin Iravugal.
Avalude Ravukal is considered as one of the boldest movies of all time. I. V. Sasi, the experimental and the most popular director at that time, tried to highlight on a theme which most mainstream directors are scared to get into.

Anuraga Karikkin Vellam is an upcoming Malayalam film directed by Khalid Rahman.The film features Biju Menon in the lead along with Asif Ali. The film is produced jointly by Prithviraj, Santhosh Sivan, Arya and Shaji Nadesan under the banner of August Cinema.

Asif Ali-Biju Menon team again coming with a film after their association in the film named Pakida. This film is titled as Anuraga Karikkin Vellam and it will be directed by debutant Rahman Khalid. Rahman Khalid is the brother of popular producer/cinematographer Shyju Khalid. The film will be based on romance at the same time it will be also set to give a good message to the society as well. The film Biju Menon and Asif Ali done together named Pakida was not very well received at box office even though the film concerned with some social issues.

The upcoming film named Anuraga Karikkin Vellam team says that Biju Menon will do the role of the father of Asif Ali. It will be a unique role for Biju Menon in his career. The film will have another popular artist in it in the key role and it will be Asha Sharath. It will be one of the best roles in her career after Drishyam and Varsham. This flick will be financed by August Cinemas of which Prithviraj, Santhosh Sivan, Shaji Natesan, Arya etc are the owners. The shoot of the film will start next month as per reports.

Rahman Khalid was the assistant director of Anil Radhakrishna Menon in the super hit film named Sapthamashree Thaskaraha which was released in last year’s Onam season starring Prithviraj and Asif Ali. That film was also financed by August Cinemas. Asif Ali has a new release coming up in the form of Kohinoor on the 24th September of which he is also a co-producer. His another film named Driver on Duty is also waiting for release as per reports and he is currently on the sets of the film named Rajamma@yahoo in which he plays the brother character of Kunchacko Boban.

August Cinemas is also financing another film named Darwinte Parinamam with Prithviraj in the lead as well which is also scheduled to start next month. Their last production venture was a failure which was Double Barrel but it was an experimental film from Lijo Jose Pellissery.

Biju Menon's been having a busy season - with the dubbing of Prithviraj-starrer Anarkali and his upcoming release Salt Mango Tree. The actor has now joined the sets of Anuraga Karikkin Vellam, which is being shot in Fort Kochi. The movie, which is being produced by Prithviraj, is directed by Khalid Rahman and has Biju Menon playing dad to Asif Ali's character.
